Science Academy
Grades 7-9 (Approximate Ages 13–15)
A year-long hands-on science and engineering program designed for homeschool students who want to think like scientists.
About Science Academy
Science Academy is designed for homeschool students in Grades 7–9 who want more than a traditional textbook science course.
Students develop a deep understanding of scientific concepts through investigation, experimentation, engineering design, discussion, and scientific notebooking. Rather than simply memorising facts, they learn to ask questions, analyse evidence, solve problems, and communicate their thinking like real scientists.
Classes are taught in small cohorts to encourage collaboration, discussion, and individual support.
What Makes Science Academy Different?
Deep Understanding
Students build strong conceptual foundations by exploring how scientific ideas connect, rather than simply memorising information.
Hands-on Labs
Every unit includes practical investigations where students collect data, test ideas, and draw evidence-based conclusions.
Scientific Notebooking
Students document observations, experiments, diagrams, reflections, and scientific thinking throughout the year.
Engineering Challenges
Students apply scientific knowledge by designing, building, testing, and improving solutions to real-world problems.
Socratic Discussion
Lessons encourage questioning, critical thinking, and scientific reasoning through guided discussion.
Small Cohort Learning
Classes are intentionally kept small (approximately 8–10 students) to provide individual support while encouraging teamwork and collaboration.

What Students Will Learn
Throughout the year students explore a broad range of scientific disciplines including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth & Space Science, and Engineering.
The programme integrates scientific investigations, engineering design challenges, scientific communication, discussion, and notebooking to help students develop both scientific knowledge and practical skills.
Learning Environment
Many lessons take place in our outdoor Makers' Barn where students investigate, build, experiment, and learn in an engaging environment.
Students should bring appropriate outdoor clothing and a water bottle for outdoor learning sessions.
